Torch Relay

Amy and I went down to Morrow Park on Tuesday December 18th for the Olympic torch run. We took a little longer to get there because we had to stop and get our Tim's. We showed up and they were giving out Tamborines, and Glow in the dark Coke bottles. We entered and were able to get our picture taken with the Olympic torch right away. That was great in itself, but we were able to see all the past torches. Then we were able to make our way to the front of the crowd and right in front of the Olympic couldron. While we waited for Bob Gainey to bring the torch they had some entertainment. The first was a guy who painted a picture of a native girl staring into the sky, he did this with his hands and all in 8 minutes. During this they had probably the best hype man I had ever seen pumping up the crowd. Then they had a group of dancers and a couple of guys playing recycle bins with coke cans as drums. They were Awesome, the girls were hanging from a ring suspended about 10 feet in the air. After that there was a local choir and a young band, that did some GNR cover songs and some Kings of Leon. Then Bob Gainey brought the torch up, that was a pretty great feeling, to know that you were within feet of the Olympic torch being carried accross the country, the same flame that can bring peace to the world, if only for moments. To be able to share this experience with my best friend made the experience that much better and was just exceptional. This was definitely an experience of a lifetime, and something we won't soon forget.
